Quick Answer
Keep five Gold Skulls for Stash Item Upgrade IV; sell surplus for 25,000 DMZ Cash. They drop from safes and high-value loot rooms, so farm places with several of those: the casino's Counting Room Vault, the apartment block in the map's lower-right compound, or Dynamic Ops compounds. Keep 5 Gold Skulls and 5 Gold Bars and sell the rest.
Where Can You Find a Gold Skull in MW4 DMZ?

Treat this as a place to check rather than a guaranteed Gold Skull pickup. Visit after you finish your main story objective, then extract with the loot.
How Do You Farm Gold Skulls in MW4 DMZ?
Hit spots with several safes and loot rooms in one run. Gold Skulls are a rare drop, so the more safes you open, the better your odds. These two routes both turned up Gold Skulls:
Lower-right compound apartments
Mark the compound in the map's lower-right corner and take the way underground. Go through the door on the right into Apartment A and find the key on the lower floor. Go back down and open the door on the left into Apartment B. Search every room on the way up, then check the safe and the chests on the roof. The block holds 3D printer blueprints, weapon manuals, legendary loot and Gold Skulls.
Dynamic Ops compounds
Deploy into Dynamic Operations, open the map and head for the nearest compound icon. Clear enemies until the progress bar hits 100%, then loot the whole compound. Every compound hides a safe in a sniper tower, underground or in the main building. Move to the next compound and repeat.
Either way, the skull only counts once you extract with it.
Should You Keep or Sell a Gold Skull in MW4 DMZ?
Keep a reserve for your stash expansion, then sell surplus Gold Skulls in the FOB for 25,000 DMZ Cash each. Community reports describe Stash Item Upgrade IV as requiring five Gold Skulls, so check your own upgrade requirement before selling.
Keep It for Stash Item Upgrade IV: Recommended While Saving
Keep five if you are working toward the Tier IV requirement. Selling those skulls turns your upgrade reserve into cash, leaving you to collect replacements for the expansion.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Upgrade | Stash Item Upgrade IV |
| Requirement | 5 Gold Skulls |
Check your FOB upgrades before deciding how many you can spare.
Sell Surplus for Cash
Extract with the Gold Skull, then sell it in the FOB if you do not need it for your upgrade reserve. The common rule among players is "5 gold bars and 5 skulls is what you want to keep. Outside of that. Sell."
If a squad has you cornered mid-run, offer a valuable like this as a bribe to get them to leave you alone.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Sale location | FOB |
| Sale value per Gold Skull | 25,000 DMZ Cash |
Once you have the loot you came for, plan your exfil so you can bring it out and make the keep-or-sell decision in the FOB.
