Quick Answer
Lieutenants can drop keys to their own locked loot rooms; match each key's description to its door. To find where a key goes, read its grid description, open the Tac-Map, then use the building and floor details below. You can also get specific keys through equipment kits as you level up.
Where do DMZ keys drop?
Lieutenants have a chance to drop a key to their own special loot room when you kill them. A kill does not guarantee a key, so treat the room as a possible follow-up rather than the reason your whole run must succeed.
Study the Lieutenant's surroundings before starting the fight. These enemies have increased durability and distinct combat behaviors, so rushing straight in can turn the hunt into a long engagement. For the wider hunt system, see MW4 DMZ bosses.
Picking up a Lieutenant's Dog Tag Case broadcasts your position to every Operator. You still receive DMZ XP and Cash from the kill if you leave the case behind. Take it for Boss Board progress, but favor a fast exfil over a long locked-room detour when you carry it.
Players also report these keys as story-mission rewards. Treat these as reported reward routes rather than guaranteed drops from ordinary enemies.
| Story mission | Reported key reward |
|---|---|
| Operation Shopping Hacks | Coin Mining Den Key |
| Operation Silent Ledger | Counting Room Vault |
| Operation Critical Extraction | Mirae Electrical Room |
| Operation Fallen Ember | Reactor DRC Locker |
| Operation Grid Assault | Roze's High-Rise Armory |
| Operation Iron Citadel | Supreme Leader Access Card |
If you want to pursue a mission reward, continue with MW4 DMZ missions.
The Doctor's Command Office has differing acquisition descriptions dated October 21, 2026: a chance drop during a Doctor encounter at Mirae General Hospital, and an unspecified acquisition route. Do not treat a Doctor kill as a guaranteed key reward.
Which equipment kits give you keys?
The Gun Store Weapons Locker Key, Police Station Key, and Black Market Weapons Locker Key come in DMZ player-level equipment kits.
| Key | Player level | Equipment kit |
|---|---|---|
| Gun Store Weapons Locker Key | 16 | Explosives Equipment Kit |
| Police Station Key | 19 | Recon Equipment Kit |
| Gun Store Weapons Locker Key | 42 | Trap Equipment Kit |
| Black Market Weapons Locker Key | 46 | Recon Equipment Kit |
If you're working toward one of these keys, aim for its listed level reward. Keep the full item name in mind: Police Station Key and Police Weapon Depository are separate key entries. For the surrounding location, see MW4 DMZ police station.
Which door does each DMZ key open?
Each key below opens the named room or locker at its matching landmark. Match the full key name before choosing your destination, especially at Heavenly Luck Casino, where the counting-room vault and underground armory are on different floors.
| Key | Landmark | Room or locker |
|---|---|---|
| Air Base DRC Weapons Locker | Chang-san Air Base bunker | Secure armory's DRC Weapons Locker |
| Bank Branch Vault Access | South Korean bank branches | Currency storage rooms |
| Counting Room Vault | Heavenly Luck Casino, Cheongun Village | Main-floor counting-room vault |
| Haksan School Armory | School northeast of Deadtown's Re-Education Center | Upstairs makeshift armory |
| Imjin Mill Foreman's Office | Rice mill, Imjin Farmland | First-floor foreman's office |
| Iskra's Control Room | Broadcast building, Cheonwang Peak Array | Upstairs control room |
| Netshin IT Room | Netshin Tech Complex, The Grid | Upper-floor high-security server room |
| Police Weapon Depository | North of Wolves Stadium police station | Auxiliary police armory |
| Re-Education Center Annex | Re-Education Center, Deadtown | Ground-floor annex |
| Reactor DRC Locker | Haneul Nuclear Reactor | DRC Weapons Locker in Reactor 02's irradiated pool |
| Shop Records Room | Goh24 supermarket, Wolves Stadium | Records room above supermarket |
| The Chemist's Secure Armory | Nuclear reactor boat house vicinity | Secured bunker |
| The Citadel South Wing | Citadel, 14th Political Prison | South wing |
| Train Depot Storageroom | Train station near Cheongun Village fire department | Basement storeroom |
| Vault Armory | Heavenly Luck Casino | Small armory in underground parking |
For Shop Records Room, look for the Goh24 supermarket south of the clinic. For Haksan School Armory, head to the school northeast of the Re-Education Center and go upstairs; the Re-Education Center Annex key instead takes you to the center's ground floor.
At the casino, take Counting Room Vault to the main floor. Taking that key down to the underground parking sends you toward Vault Armory's destination instead. Continue with MW4 DMZ counting room vault if that is the key you have.
How do you find a key's room on the Tac-Map?
Read the grid in the key's description, then use it to find the general area before looking for the named building and floor. Grid letters run west to east, and numbers run north to south. D7, for example, identifies Imjin Farmland.
- Read the key's full name and grid description.
- Find that square on the Tac-Map.
- Match the landmark in the room table, then search the specified floor or locker location.
Air Base DRC Weapons Locker points to B6. Netshin IT Room is in G6, while Heavenly Luck Casino's Counting Room Vault and Vault Armory are in F4. The Chemist's Secure Armory points to I4 near the nuclear reactor boat house; plan that approach around radiation.
Some keys have different key-grid and area-grid references. Keep these distinctions when navigating:
| Key | Key grid / area grid | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Haksan School Armory | B7 / C6 | October 20, 2026 |
| Imjin Mill Foreman's Office | D8 / D7 | October 20, 2026 |
| Iskra's Control Room | F7 / E6 | October 20, 2026 |
| Train Depot Storageroom | E5 / F4 | October 20, 2026 |
| Reactor DRC Locker | H4 / I4 | October 21, 2026 |
| Shop Records Room | F7 / G7 | October 21, 2026 |
A grid square identifies an area, not a door. Use the building and floor as your final landmarks instead of treating either grid reference as an exact entrance pin.
How do you keep a key if you die?
Put the key in a medium backpack's secure slot to have it return to your stash if you die. Do this when you find a key you want to keep, before committing to another fight or a long trip across Hajin.
Clear backpack space before opening a loot room so you have room for what you came to collect. With your key matched to its room and protected for the journey, plot your next stop on the MW4 DMZ Hajin map.
Which MW4 DMZ key and code guides should you read next?
- Counting Room Vault: the casino's main-floor vault and the key players report receiving from Operation Silent Ledger.
- Iron Citadel Armory Code: the access-card upgrade, marked keycode stations and the code your mission tracker shows.
- Safe Locations & Robbery: where to search compounds and locked spaces for the Robbery safe, and the extraction value you need.
- Keypad & Armory Codes: fixed container and hidden-bunker codes in the Stranded mission; those locations are in Stranded rather than DMZ mode.
