Quick Answer
Finish Military, Special and Completionist camos, then do the DMZ Mastery challenges in order. You equip MW4 DMZ camos in the Gunsmith, which opens at DMZ level 10. DMZ Mastery goes Chiral, Ripple Tide, then Helio. In DMZ, AI kills count toward Special challenges, but the kill totals are usually higher than in Multiplayer.
How Do You Unlock MW4 DMZ Camos?
Level your gun for Military camos, clear its Special challenges, then grind the Completionist camos to reach DMZ Mastery.
- Unlock Gunsmith at DMZ level 10. That's where you put camos on. Still need to get or modify the gun? Follow the weapon unlocking and Gunsmith steps.
- Level the gun you want to dress up. Every gun has 8 Military camos, each one unlocking at a weapon level milestone. The milestones differ per gun, so check yours. Working on progression first? See DMZ leveling and rewards.
- Clear that gun's 3 Special challenges. Each one opens at a set weapon level. Once you finish a Special camo, it goes into a shared pool your other guns can use.
- Equip the camo in Gunsmith. Open the gun's camo menu and pick the DMZ category for DMZ camos.
The DMZ category in the weapon camo menu holds the War Spoils camo.
Shown at 169:20 in MrDalekJD’s video. In that clip, one player reads the War Spoils unlock off the menu: "extract three weapons manuals for this weapon in DMZ to get the war spoils camo."
On the Han 86, Military camos unlock at these weapon levels:
| Military Camo | Weapon Level |
|---|---|
| 1 | 10 |
| 2 | 18 |
| 3 | 25 |
| 4 | 34 |
| 5 | 42 |
| 6 | 50 |
| 7 | 57 |
| 8 | 65 |
Those are Han 86 numbers. Other guns have their own levels.
Military camos are per gun, you earn them on each one. Special camos go into a shared pool once unlocked, so clearing one gun's Special challenges gives your other guns more options too.
What Are the MW4 DMZ Camo Challenges?
Special challenges ask for specific kinds of kills. Completionist challenges unlock one after another once a gun has all 8 Military and 3 Special camos.
Camo progress is shared across modes, but Special challenge conditions change with the mode you're in. In DMZ, AI targets count, and the kill totals are usually higher. Finish a Special challenge in one mode and that camo is yours in every mode.
Han 86 Special Camos
Hit the weapon level to open each challenge.
| Camo | Required Weapon Level |
|---|---|
| Smoke | 25 |
| Stormwave | 46 |
| Red | 72 |
Then do its DMZ objective:
| Camo | DMZ Requirement |
|---|---|
| Smoke | 75 mounted kills |
| Stormwave | 125 enemy kills with a silencer |
| Red | 3 enemy kills without taking damage, 50 times |
Sang 9mm Special Camos
The Sang 9mm has its own level gates and objectives.
| Camo | Required Weapon Level |
|---|---|
| Autumn | 13 |
| Snakeskin | 25 |
| Space Time | 38 |
Once a challenge opens, work on its DMZ requirement:
| Camo | DMZ Requirement |
|---|---|
| Autumn | 75 enemy kills while aiming down sights |
| Snakeskin | 3 enemy kills without taking damage, 15 times |
| Space Time | 125 enemy kills using Akimbo |
For Red and Snakeskin, just staying alive doesn't count. Each run of the challenge needs 3 enemy kills without taking any damage. Don't confuse it with the Multiplayer "without dying" version.
Completionist Unlock Order
- Gold: Finish the gun's Military and Special camos, then get 100 eliminations in a single DMZ match. Spreading them over several matches doesn't count.
- Platinum: Get Gold on every gun in the same class, then do that class's Platinum challenge. For the Han 86: Gold on 8 assault rifles, then 100 headshots against enemies in DMZ.
- Harmonic Break: Finish all Platinum challenges to open it. The Han 86 example needs Platinum on 33 weapons, then 50 double kills against enemies in DMZ.
- Divergence: Complete 33 Harmonic Break challenges. Divergence opens the first Mastery challenge.
The Han 86 headshot and double-kill objectives are for its class, assault rifles. Platinum and Harmonic Break objectives change by class, so don't assume they're the same for pistols, shotguns or anything else.
The October 23, 2026 update fixed wrong camo requirement displays, including a DMZ challenge that said Longshot kills when it meant Headshot kills. It also fixed Military camos showing as locked again after weapon Prestige.
How Do You Unlock MW4 DMZ Mastery Camo?
Get Divergence, then clear Chiral, Ripple Tide and Helio in that order. Mastery challenges are tied to their game mode.
Unlock Chiral
Once you have Divergence, get 2,500 Tier 3+ enemy kills. Lower-tier enemies don't count.
Unlock Ripple Tide
Finish Chiral, then exfil 2 LT dog tags in a single deployment 50 times. Both tags have to leave with you on the same run for it to count. Plan to bring out the pair together, not one tag per run. Check the exfil and Fulton mechanics before you lock in an extraction route.
Unlock Helio
Finish Ripple Tide, then get 25,000 kills using Legendary Weapons on a Max Level Operator. You need both: the weapon rarity and the Operator level. A max-level gun doesn't replace the Max Level Operator part.
Next run, build your DMZ loadout around the challenge you're on: mounted kills, silenced kills, Akimbo kills or whatever Completionist objective you've reached.
