Quick Answer

Buy Vault Edition to get the deployment bonus: an extra Active Duty slot and a Deployment Kit. You start with three Active Duty Operator slots instead of two. The kit has two each of Weapon Insurance Contracts, Operator Rescue Beacons, Fulton Drop Marker, Medium Backpacks and 2-Plate Carriers. To unpack your MW4 DMZ deployment bonus, use the kit at the FOB's Survival Kits station.

What Is the DMZ Deployment Bonus in MW4?

It's a Vault Edition perk: one extra starting Active Duty Operator slot, plus a Deployment Kit. More room for Operators, and a box of supplies for your runs. Keep the two apart: the slot changes how many Operators you start with, and the kit is stuff you unpack at the FOB.

Your Extra Active Duty Operator Slot

Own Vault Edition and you start with three Active Duty Operator slots. Everyone else starts with two.

EditionStarting Active Duty Operator Slots
Standard2
Vault3

You can also unlock another slot by leveling up in DMZ. Worth knowing if the extra slot is the main reason you're eyeing Vault Edition: the edition gives you the slot from the start, and leveling is a separate way to get one more.

An Active Duty Operator slot is room for an Operator, not an Operator skin. Want to change how your character looks? Follow the change Operator and skins instructions.

Your Deployment Kit Contents

The Vault Edition Deployment Kit has two of each item below. This is what's inside the kit. It has nothing to do with your slot count.

ItemQuantity
Weapon Insurance Contracts2
Operator Rescue Beacons2
Fulton Drop Marker2
Medium Backpacks2
2-Plate Carriers2

You don't have to open a Survival Kit right away. Unopened kits sit in the Survival Kits station menu and stack there forever. Leave it closed until you want the gear in your Stash. Opening it unpacks the whole kit, not just one item.

Your Vault Edition Weapon Blueprints

Vault Edition also gives you one-time access to its Signature Weapon Collection Blueprints in your DMZ inventory. Keep that in mind next to the kit, especially before you take one of those guns into a run.

Base WeaponBlueprint
Kastov 762Voltspine
ISO NightshadeLa Sombra Venenosa
Rezi 12Shattered Code
Oris 8.6Volt-Edge
Combat KnifeSombra Besada

A Weapon Blueprint you own works once for free in the DMZ Gunsmith. Lose that copy on a run and it's gone for good. You can buy the same Blueprint again with DMZ Cash, cheaper than building the gun normally.

The free first use isn't unlimited free replacements. Lose a Signature Weapon Collection gun and you pay DMZ Cash to get it back at the Gunsmith. Check unlocking weapons and the Gunsmith before you replace one.

How Do You Get the DMZ Deployment Bonus in MW4?

Buy Vault Edition, or, if you pre-ordered the Digital Standard Edition, upgrade to Vault on the same platform. Pick the route that matches how you bought the game, then go find the supplies in DMZ.

Get Vault Edition

Buy Vault Edition to get its content and edition perks. The deployment bonus comes with that edition, so that's the one to pick.

Check the original platform if you are upgrading

Pre-ordered the Digital Standard Edition? Upgrade to Vault on the same platform you bought it on. The steps differ by platform, so follow your storefront's instructions.

Open the Survival Kits station at the FOB

The Survival Kits station is open from the start in the FOB. This is where your unopened Survival Kits wait before their gear goes into your Stash.

Unpack the Deployment Kit when you need it

Use the kit to unpack it and drop everything into your Stash. Saving it for later? Leave it closed in the station menu.

You don't need a Vault Edition preorder for the purchase route. Buying Vault Edition gives you the perks. The Digital Standard preorder rule only applies to the upgrade route above.

Once the gear is in your Stash, the next job is getting ready for a run and getting back out with it. Read how to exfil and use Fulton before you take a gun you'd have to pay to replace.
