Quick Answer
Extract a gun's Weapon Manual to unlock buying it again in Gunsmith. Extracting the gun itself doesn't do that. Hit DMZ Level 10 to open Gunsmith from the FOB or the left side blade menu, then spend DMZ Cash to buy and build guns. Blueprints you own are free the first time; replacements cost DMZ Cash at a discount.
How Do You Unlock Weapons in MW4 DMZ?
Find the Weapon Manual for the gun you want and extract with it. That unlocks buying it again and again in Gunsmith. Bringing home the gun itself only gives you that one gun to use and modify, not the purchase unlock. One player put it plainly: "If you don't have the weapon manual, you can't craft that weapon."
- Find the matching Weapon Manual on a run.
- Extract with the manual. Finding it isn't enough, you have to bring it home.
- Once you have Gunsmith, open Buy New Weapon and buy the gun with DMZ Cash.
You can also modify a gun you extracted with. That lets you upgrade a gun you already have before you unlock buying it. Lose that one gun on a later run, though, and its weapon type can still be locked.
Weapon levels unlock attachments. The matching Weapon Manual unlocks buying the gun again in DMZ. Some players first said manuals were only for the War Spoils camo, then corrected themselves: manuals unlock gun purchases too. Both statements are undated. The October 9, 2026 purchase rule says you need to extract the matching manual. Treat weapon camos as a separate goal from buying replacement guns.
How Do You Unlock and Use Gunsmith in MW4 DMZ?
Hit DMZ Level 10 to unlock Gunsmith ("Level 10. I got it. We got gunsmith."), then open it from the FOB or the left side blade menu. Building guns there costs DMZ Cash, and so do attachment slots and attachments.
Select your weapon
Pick a gun you already have, or use Buy New Weapon after you've extracted its manual.
Select the gun you want to modify in Gunsmith.

Level the gun in Multiplayer or DMZ to unlock its attachments. Weapon progress is shared between the two, so compatible attachments you already unlocked are there in DMZ.
Spend DMZ Cash to open an attachment slot. Buy slots in any order, but each one costs more than the last. Opening a slot lets you buy and fit an unlocked attachment. The attachment still isn't free.
Add the attachment and purchase the build
Pick the attachment, hit Add to build, then use the purchase prompt. Want a suppressor? Pick a suppressor. As one player found out, "Compensator is not the same thing as a suppressor, so that won't work."
The suppressor build is ready to buy. Finish the purchase after you add it to the build.

| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Gunsmith attachments | Up to five |
| Found weapon attachment slots | Up to eight |
The Apex Attachment slot is free to unlock once weapon progress gets you there. The Apex Attachment itself still costs DMZ Cash. Launchers don't have attachments or Apex Attachments.
Camos, stickers and other cosmetics you've earned are free to apply. Blueprints have their own purchase rules, below.

How Do MW4 DMZ Blueprints Unlock and Work?
Once you get a Weapon Blueprint, you can use it once for free in the DMZ Gunsmith menu. Lose that copy on a run and you can buy the blueprint again with DMZ Cash, cheaper than building the same gun yourself.
For example, the Beta Forged Han 86 Assault Rifle Blueprint is the reward for finishing the MW4 Beta. That's how this one blueprint is earned. It's not how other blueprints unlock.
To use a blueprint you own, open Gunsmith, select it, and add the gun to your loadout. When you plan your spending, keep the free first copy separate from later paid replacements.
Vault Edition Signature Weapon Collection blueprints show up in your DMZ inventory as a one-time perk. Under the October 9, 2026 rule, you get discounted Gunsmith replacements if you lose them on a run.
Some players have said Vault blueprint replacements are free forever. That claim is undated. It doesn't match the October 9, 2026 rule: free first copy, then paid, discounted replacements. Budget DMZ Cash for replacing a lost Vault gun.
Got the gun you want? Move on to DMZ loadouts and plan what to bring on your next run.
