Quick Answer
Run Story Missions, Dynamic Operations and Side Ops for DMZ XP. The fast route in MW4 DMZ: take the closest objective, drive instead of running, and knock out Orders on the way. DMZ XP pushes both your 1–70 DMZ level and your overall 1–55 player level, and you keep it even if you fail to exfil.
What Is the Fastest Way to Level Up in MW4 DMZ?
Build your run around Story Missions, Dynamic Operations and Side Ops, and finish nearby Orders as you move between them. All of these give DMZ XP, and kills add more on top.
- Set up in the Skills tab first. One player puts points into skills that make your character stronger or get you more loot to sell. They go for the branch with red icons, but say it's their own pick, not the one best build.
The Skills tab is where you pick character upgrades before you start your leveling route.

- Drive between objectives. Same player: on foot you'll fit two tasks into a run, by car you can do three if you play it right.
- Do the Orders that are on your way. They're in the upper-left corner of your HUD. A new one shows up as soon as you finish one, so check it before you move on.
Your current Orders show in the upper-left corner. Do them next to your main objective when it's easy.
Shown at 02:28 in Cbass’s video. Why nearby objectives? Less travel, more time doing things that pay XP. And don't chase Orders alone. As that player puts it: "You shouldn't focus only on them, but if you can do them, then why not." Finish them along the way. Don't let every new Order drag you off your route.
XP you earn and loot you carry follow different rules. Dying doesn't take away the DMZ XP from that run, but you don't keep everything in your backpack. Got loot worth keeping? Plan your DMZ exfil.
Does DMZ Level Up Your Multiplayer Level in MW4?
Yes. DMZ XP also raises the overall player level that Multiplayer uses. It doesn't work the other way: Multiplayer and Warzone XP don't raise your DMZ level.
| Progression | Level Range |
|---|---|
| DMZ player progression | 1–70 |
| Overall player progression | 1–55 |
So it's one-way for DMZ: playing DMZ moves both tracks, playing Multiplayer or Warzone doesn't touch the DMZ one. Fail an exfil and your DMZ XP still counts.
Weapon progression is shared between Multiplayer and DMZ too. Open a gun's Progression menu to see its level path, attachment unlocks and Weapon Camos.
What Rewards Do You Get From MW4 DMZ Leveling?
Leveling up in DMZ opens FOB stations, station upgrades and rewards that help you prep for later runs.
| Station or System | Leveling Benefit |
|---|---|
| FOB stations | New station access |
| 3D Printer | New equipment types |
| Active Duty | Additional Operator slot |
| Bank | More DMZ Cash capacity |
| Gunsmith | Weapon purchase discounts |
| Stash | More equipment slots |
| Weapon Stash | More weapon slots |
| Dog Tag Case | Increased bounty payouts |
| FOB Vendor | More weapon offers |
| FOB Vendor | Additional item slots |
You also get crafting recipes, Operators, outfits, 3D Printer ingredients, Survival Kits and Fire Support. Recipes add to what you can craft. Survival Kits are gear bundles for your runs.
Between runs, go to the FOB and use what your levels opened up. You get more ways to prep and more storage, so leveling is about more than the number next to your name.
What Does an MW4 DMZ Bonus Give You?
A gun's Bonus Level Up skips an unlock level when that level would give you a Shared Attachment you already have.
Shared Attachments only need unlocking once across compatible guns, so you don't grind the same attachment on every weapon. Max out all of a gun's levels and you open its Apex Attachment. Guns also have their own Weapon Prestige.
Bonus Level Up is a weapon progression thing. The Vault Edition's DMZ Deployment Bonus is a different bonus-content listing. Don't mix up the two names, and don't read that listing as an XP multiplier.
Will There Be Wipes in MW4 DMZ?
"Permanent progression" is not a promise that MW4 DMZ will never wipe. The FOB holds your long-term progress. Operator Prestige is a separate, optional reset you choose for one Operator.
Operator Prestige has nothing to do with the 1–55 overall player level or the 1–70 DMZ level. And it costs you real stuff:
| First Operator Prestige Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| Earned Trait Points | 18 |
| Weapons | Two, Rare or higher |
| Attachment slots per weapon | Three |
| Plate Carrier | Rare or higher |
| Backpack | Rare or higher |
| Printer Ingredients | Four, Rare or higher |
| DMZ Cash | Required bank payment |
| Operator status | Not MIA awaiting rescue |
When you Prestige, the gear and cash get used up, that Operator's normal Traits reset, and they get a random permanent Prestige Trait. Each Operator can earn up to three Prestige Traits.
Take anything you want to keep out of the Operator's Backpack and Loadout before you hit Prestige. Whatever's left there is gone. Check your Operator Traits before you pay for the reset.
Next run, pick a mission you can work on while doing the stuff around it. Then head back to the FOB and put your rewards to use.
FAQ
Take the nearest missions or operations and do the Orders that are on the way. One player drives between objectives so less of the run goes to travel.
Yes. DMZ XP counts toward the overall 1–55 player level as well as the 1–70 DMZ track. Multiplayer and Warzone XP don't raise your DMZ level.
FOB station access, station upgrades, and rewards like crafting recipes, Operators, outfits, ingredients, Survival Kits and Fire Support. Station perks include more storage and cheaper weapons.
You get a Bonus Level Up when a gun level would unlock a Shared Attachment you already have. That unlock level gets skipped.
Don't read "permanent progression" as a no-wipe promise. Operator Prestige is an optional reset for one Operator and is separate from your overall and DMZ levels.
No. Dying or failing exfil doesn't take away the DMZ XP from that run. Keeping the XP doesn't mean keeping everything you carried.
This route doesn't promise a set amount of XP, and nothing guarantees there won't be a wipe.
